Shadowing: Training “on the job”

Shadowing is a practical training method in which a coach accompanies a manager in their professional environment for a limited period of time. The goal is to gain a comprehensive impression of the manager's responsibilities and potential. The coach acts as a silent observer and does not actively intervene in the process, but rather acts as a shadow.

Goal setting and reflection

Develop goals in advance: Before the shadowing begins, the coach and the manager meet to define clear goals and expectations for the shadowing process. These goals can focus on the manager's personal development as well as specific professional challenges. Examples of such goals could include:

  • Improving communication skills
  • More effective delegation of tasks
  • Strengthening employee loyalty and motivation

Reflection and feedback: After each shadowing session, a detailed reflection phase takes place. The coach and the manager jointly analyze the observed situations and behaviors, identifying both positive aspects and potential for improvement.

Solutions and potential for improvement

Development of solutions: Based on the reflection, the coach and the manager jointly develop concrete solutions and measures for improvement. These can be individually tailored to the manager's needs and goals.

Implementation and follow-up: The developed solutions are integrated into daily work and regularly reviewed. The coach can continue to provide support, monitor progress, and make adjustments as needed.

This structured approach to shadowing not only ensures continuous development of the manager, but also promotes sustainable improvement of work processes and relationships within the entire team.
